Setting up POP3 Email Boxes

Once your domain is registered and active in your control panel, you are able to set up email addresses for your domain. A POP3 email address is a 'standard' email address, like one that you may already have with your ISP. This will allow you to create an address on your domain (e.g. sales@domain.co.uk), which you can pick up from anywhere in the world.

To set up a POP3 email address on a domain, you will first need to go to the email section of the control panel. This can be done by clicking the 'e-mail' link from the control panel menu. Once you have entered this section, you will see a screen similar to the one below.

To enter your control panel go to http://cp.<your domain> and enter your control panel user name and password.  You should now see a control panel like this:-

From here, you should click on email button. You will then be presented with a screen that looks similar to the one below:-

To create or edit an Email account click on the POP Account (user) admin option.  You will be presented with a screen that looks similar to the one below:-

To add a new user. Click on Add New User.  You will be presented with a screen that looks similar to:-

Enter the email address user name and the POP3 password.  Then press Create.  You have now set up an Email account.  Repeat the process for all the Email accounts you require.  With BUILDANDHOST there in no limit on the number of Email accounts that you can have.

Setting up an alias

An Email Alias address is an email address that can receive emails, but it does not work in the same way as a standard POP3 box. An alias will purely receive an email, and then forward it on to another designated address. An alias cannot have auto responders attached to them, or any other special feature. If you needed anything apart from forwarding, then a POP3 box would be a better choice.

To setup an Email Alias you will first need to go to the email section of the control panel. This can be done by clicking the 'e-mail' link from the control panel menu. Once you have entered this section, you will see a screen similar to the one below.

The destination E-mail address does not have to be in your domain!.  Once you have finished press the Create button to create the Alias.

Nobody Alias

It is possible to set up an Email Alias that collects all emails that are not caught by other addresses on the domain. This is done by creating an alias with an 'Alias ID' of 'nobody'. This alias will collect all emails that are not recognized by any other email address on the domain, and forward them to the destination.

A common use of the Nobody Alias is to allow emails to anything@<your domain name>. This can be useful when people emailing you may make spelling mistakes in the address, or so you can receive from multiple address in one place.
