FTP Accounts - Used to upload your website to the internet
Every BUILDANDHOST account comes with an
FTP account. This can be used for both uploading your web site or
storing data onto your web space. This option allows you to set the
password for you FTP account. Clicking FTP you should be presented
with a screen similar to the one below:-
Your server home directory for
your web pages is ftp://ftp.<your domain>/htdocs.
e.g
ftp://ftp.BUILDANDHOST.net/htdocs The ftp account also has its default
directory set to <your domain root>. This is so that you can use it
to upload your web pages if you upload to /htdocs.
You have 3 directories on you Web
site:-
<your domain root>/htdocs - This is for
web pages.
<your domain root>/private - For advanced users to store database files or
other private files.
<your domain root>/logfiles - Where your site log files are stored.
For help on the File system and
scripting click here.
You can however use you ftp
account to store files and other data in your root <your domain>, or any
other directory you want to make off the root without interfering with
your web sight. To do this you will need to log into your ftp
account using an ftp program.
This has been done to allow
you the flexibility to use your ftp account for other purposes. Note
that the you cannot access the root from within a web browser. This
is to provide protection of you files in the root by requiring you to
enter you ftp username and password to access them.
Note that any files stored
using ftp must comply with our standard terms and
conditions.
